Alrov Center for Digital Medicine – Symposium Recap & 2025 Call for Proposals

27.3.25, 12:00

Held at the Museum of Natural History, this year’s symposium welcomed around 80 participants, physicians, researchers, and students from both institutions for an afternoon of engaging presentations and collaborative dialogue.

On Thursday, March 27, 2025, the Alrov Center for Digital Medicine held its annual symposium, attended by Prof. Ariel Porat, President of Tel Aviv University; Prof. David Zeltser, Acting Deputy Director for R&D and Innovation and Director of the Internal Medicine Division at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center; Prof. Karen Avraham, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences; and Mr. Alfred Akirov, whose generous contribution enabled the establishment of the Center.

The event, held at the Museum of Natural History, brought together around 80 physicians, researchers, and students for an afternoon of engaging presentations and collaboration.

We were honored to host Prof. Ron Shamir as our keynote speaker. His talk,
"Bioinformatics and Machine Learning for EMR and Omics Analysis: Case Studies in Cancer and COVID-19"

offered a fascinating look into the intersection of data science and clinical research.

In addition, attendees had the opportunity to learn about several research projects funded by the center in the past year:

Prof. Yuval Nir (Tel Aviv University) and Prof. Riva Tauman (Ichilov)
"Machine learning-based detection of deep brain activity during sleep"

Prof. Hila May (Tel Aviv University) and Dr. Amit Bandy (Ichilov)
"Predicting hip fractures from proximal femoral shape: Developing a new diagnostic tool"

Prof. Yael Hanein (Tel Aviv University) and Prof. Anat Mirelman (Ichilov)
"Home-based testing and automated detection of REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD)"

Dr. Shir Azrielant (Ichilov) and Prof. Irit Gat-Viks (Tel Aviv University)
"Comprehensive histological atlas of inflammatory skin diseases"

Prof. Amir Sonnenblick (Ichilov) and Prof. Roded Sharan (Tel Aviv University)
"Bootstrapping gene panel sequencing data for predicting response to therapy"

We extend our sincere thanks to all the speakers for their thought-provoking presentations, and a special note of appreciation to Prof. Ron Shamir for delivering a truly inspiring keynote lecture.
